E. eugene-maraisii
Encephalartos eugene-maraisii is endemic to South Africa, where it is limited to Limpopo. It is known as the Waterberg cycad. This plant grows in the sandstone hills of the Waterberg Range at 1400 to 1500 meters in elevation. The habitat is grassland and savanna. The species was named for South African naturalist Eugène Marais. It is a medium-sized to large cycad with an erect, aerial stem that sometimes becomes procumbent with age. The stem can usually grow up to about 4 m long and 0.45 m in diameter with soft whitish cataphylls at the crown of the stem.
